Temperatures have gone down! We have been misled! It actually rains in San José. My colleague told me in December that it hadn’t rained in San José for 9 months. Now, it’s raining cats and dogs.
Annelien promised to cook a wonderful mix of Belgian, French and American cuisine: Tomate farcie with sweet potatoes, my favourite dish. On Friday afternoon, Annelien put her dish in the oven. The recipe recommends a moderate oven (350°F = 180°C). I was at the office until 6 PM and I had a last bite of the candy someone brought to celebrate the weekend had started.
My colleagues warned me it was pouring rain. I had biked to work in the morning and I called Annelien and asked her to come to Hamilton Avenue to pick me up at the office. However, her dish was in the oven and she couldn’t leave the house. Remembering that it never rains in San José, we concluded that my colleagues probably had exaggerated, since they haven’t seen how it rains in Brussels. We know what real rain is and I wouldn’t let a little bit of rain sidetrack me. I went to the fitness centre to get changed and to pick up my bike. And it was indeed pouring rain; and the sky was filled with thunder clouds and every once in a while lightning struck. However, it was now too late to go back inside and I didn’t want to show my colleagues that I was afraid of a little bit of rain.
It was horrible! I was swept away. Luckily, I have a well-lit bike and a very cool helmet. After my brave half hour fight against the flood, it stopped raining. I hoped the tomate farcie was worth the ride!

And yes, it was! It was delicious! :-)
