See You Soon, Annelien!

Tomorrow, Annelien is flying out to South Bend, Indiana. She crammed her huge suitcase to its full capacity; she can hardly lift it. My heart feels heavy too.

To chase away the sadness, I started looking for a hobby for the next ten months. I am undecided though about the classes I want to take. Urban Beekeeping or Spanish for Political Activists? Jesus for Gays or Anxiety Management? I really don’t know. Too much selection stresses the customer out. I’ll let you know what I have picked when I am ready.

Beekeeping seems to be the new big thing in Berkeley and Oakland, but I am not convinced that would be a smart choice at this point in time. Our neighbors may be not too happy about it and I don’t want to be thrown out of the house now that we have decided we want to stay where we are. I have seen too many churches-turned-grocery-store-turned-condo and houses that require only a little bit of refreshing. Yes, the latter means a full kitchen renovation and a new roof – you basically have to build a new house yourself and no, there’s no rent reduction while you’re in the works. Because we have enough on our mind – I am not even sure why I am looking for a new hobby, we will stay high and dry on Guerrero and 24th. Annelien will have a loving home to come back to. And no, South Bend, that home will not be in Indiana!
