Abducted By Aliens

Do you remember that I told you about my very old sunglasses that make me look like a friendly bumblebee? Annelien hated those glasses. And now, they seem to have mysteriously disappeared. Ahum. Like I would believe that they were stolen or got lost. I sense that some questionable events took place here.

Today, I sat in my now world-famous cube wearing my new sunglasses – for medical reasons, of course. I’ll explain to you why in a minute. One of my meaner friends came by to make fun of my shades and my affable cube neighbor showed his team spirit, put on his sunglasses and sneered at our visitor for not wearing sunglasses like everyone else as required by company policy.

Well, the latter is not fully true. But it’s true that I was wearing the glasses for medical reasons. I had eye surgery last week and I wanted to give my eyes a break from all the bright sunlight that somehow finds its way into my workspace. The routine LASIK operation is probably not that scary for most people, but I whimpered through the whole surgery, while I was squeezing a friendly nurse’s hand. Annelien was too scared to even watch the operation on a screen outside of the surgery room; she felt she would pass out and left the clinic to have lunch at the local Ethiopian. The nurse gave me a stress-ball in the form of a giant eye. Brrr.

For the first few days after the surgery, the eye doctor made me wear little shields on my eyes at night. Annelien was a little bit scared of me. I reminded her of E.T. And we all know that she has a special relationship with outer space. I assume she thought I was a visitor who had come all the way from Little Hummus.
